The Ignacio Senior Center honors and supports the elders and seniors
of the Ignacio area who built the community and supported succeeding
generations. The Senior Center is dedicated to helping senior citizens
live independently and avoid hospitalization for as long as possible.
All services are for seniors 55 and up.
The mission of the Ignacio Senior Center is:
To provide services to the senior citizens of the Southern Ute Reservation, the town of Ignacio, and the surrounding area. The program will serve those with the greatest economic and social need, including those who are low-income, the frail and impaired, the geographically and socially isolated, and the non-English speaking to improve their quality of life by fostering an environment of dignity and pride.
This purpose is accomplished through a number of core activities:
- Meals. Tired of cooking? Don't want to cook? Can't cook? Don't want to eat
alone? Let the Senior Center help with meals.
- Meals at the Center
We serve three meals a week at the Senior Center: Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday at noon. Come let us serve you a balanced,
nutritious meal while you visit with friends. Transportation to the
Center is provided—call by 9:30 a.m.
- Meals on Wheels
Meals are delivered in the Ignacio / Bayfield area Monday through Friday.
These meals are for home-bound seniors and seniors whe may have a health
problem that keeps them from cooking.
- Group outings including recreation, bingo, sightseeing, color rides,
casinos, museums, shopping! We take several trips a year in the surrounding
area. Join us!
- Eldercize. Keep fit and mobile. Come join us for Eldercize held
every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:00 a.m.
- Transportation is provided in and around Ignacio every weekday afternoon.
Call the Center, and we will take you to the store, bank, post office,
a friend's house, or wherever you need to go between 1:00 and 3:30
p.m., Monday through Friday. We also provide transportation to Bayfield
and Durango for doctor's appointments. Please call the day before you
need to go for service beyond Ignacio.
- Errands. Need someone to go to the store, check your mail, pick up
medication? Call the SUCAP Senior Center, and we will be glad to help.
Call before 9:30 a.m., and your errands can be done on the meal routes
or first thing in the afternoon.
- Congregate. Visit with your friends at the Senior Center. We also
play fun Bingo at the Cneter with everyone getting a prize.
- Information & Assistance. Do you need assistance and don't know how
or where to get it? Call the Senior Center, and we will help you in
whatever way we can. We will do our best to put you in touch with whatever
agency can help you, or provide you assitance through one of our programs
if applicable.
- Adult Day Care.
