Road Runner Transit Road
Runner Transit connects the east side of La Plata County with medical services, jobs,
education and shopping in Durango, the county seat and primary commercial
center. This is a public transit system,
available to anyone. Primary
transit routes operate ·
Ignacio
to Durango (since 1999) · Bayfield to Durango (since October 23, 2006) · Forest Lakes to Bayfield to Ignacio (since May, 2006) The service was started in 1999 with major support from the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, and a federal grant managed by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). Its initial purpose was to increase mobility among seniors, and persons without cars or licenses. As gas prices have increased in recent years, many commuters have found that they can save money by riding the Road Runner. The Road Runner now stops at the new Mercy Medical Center (on request only), and links with Durango Transit there and at other points in Durango. Route Deviations: Persons with disabilities who need to be picked up off the main route, please call 563-4545 the day before your planned trip. The Road Runner will travel up to 3/4 mile off the main route to pick you up. |
