Southern Ute Montessori

Head Start and Early Head Start

The Southern Ute Montessori Head Start and Early Head Start serve children and their families ages birth to age five.  The program is operated in partnership with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.  The Tribe is the grantee; SUCAP is the delegate agency.

The program’s mission:

We respect the cultural uniqueness of each child and family in our diverse community. We accept and support each child and family to become successful, responsible citizens.

To meet the mission fully, the program has gone beyond the standard Head Start and Early Head Start program models.  These enhancements include

·         Use of a Montessori pre-school curriculum since 1996.  The Montessori approach creates a unique, age -appropriate learning environment for children combined with active parent involvement.

·         Use of the Touchpoints child-parent communication model.

·         Mental wellness services for young children and families

Head Start serves 95+ children and their families.

Early Head Start serves around 35 children plus their families, and, on average, eight pregnant women.
